Pobail Le Chéile Internet Policy for Public Use Service
Pobail le Chéile (PLC) and its Projects offers Internet access in support of its mission to satisfy the informational needs of the wider community. Internet sites are additional sources of information that supplement the official print sources and other electronic sources that are available. In offering Internet access, the PLC does not monitor or have control over information that can be accessed over the Internet. Although the Internet offers access to many valuable local, national and international sources of information, not all sources are accurate, complete, current or appropriate for all users. PLC staff and volunteers have identified, on the company’s website and on the computer desktops, links to specific sources and sites on the Internet that are consistent with the Pobail Le Chéile mission.
PATRON’S RIGHT TO ACCESS INFORMATION
In providing access to the Internet, the PLC subscribes to the patron’s right to access information, adopted by PLC Board of Directors. In addition, the company supports the citizen’s right to free access to public information. This access is free of charge, we do however, ask patrons to make a donation of what they can afford and think is reasonable for use of the service. Non-payment will NEVER result in refusal to grant access.
ACCEPTABLE USE
It is the policy of PLC to provide an atmosphere conducive to the appropriate use of our services and facilities. Patrons using the Internet are responsible for reading and complying with the Patron Code of Conduct and the Guidelines for Public Internet Access brochure posted in the shop and on the corresponding Pobail Le Chéile website. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the loss of access privileges and/or subject the user to prosecution by local, national or international authorities. Internet users must comply with copyright laws and all other applicable laws. Electronic resources, like other PLC resources, are to be used in compliance with company policy and procedures and applicable laws.
CHILDREN AND THE INTERNET
As with all PLC resources, it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to monitor and supervise their children’s access to the Internet and its resources. Parents and guardians are encouraged to read Keeping Safe Online (information available at www.internetsafety.ie and to respect the decision of staff or volunteers with PLC to terminate a child or young person’s internet access.
INTERNET USE AND SAFETY
The Internet provides electronic access to many valuable local, national and international sources of information. PLC staff and volunteers have identified, on the web site and PC desktops, links to specific sources and sites on the Internet that may be helpful in searching for information. The staff & volunteers may also be contacted for assistance with conducting searches and guidance to appropriate and reliable sites. Before using the Internet further, all patrons are encouraged to preview and take the advice of the following site: http://www.internetsafety.ie/website/ois/oisweb.nsf/page/safety-guideparents-en
PATRONS AND TIME ON-LINE & CHARGES
As this is NOT an Internet Café, patrons are asked to limit their time on-line to as short as possible to enable maximum use of the service. Where possible, users are asked to limit their use to 15 minutes, especially when others are waiting. This service is free to use. We do ask patrons to make a donation if the can in the Internet Service box provided.
